The future on wheels: electric freight transport is coming to the Czech Republic
Electromobility is no longer just the domain of passenger cars. Europe is fully investing in the transition of heavy transport to clean energy sources, and the Czech Republic and Slovakia are on the verge of a fundamental change.
The state is launching programs to support charging infrastructure for trucks, manufacturers are expanding their range of electric tractors, and logistics companies are starting to look for partners who will help them transition to the new standard.
RAALTRANS stands in the middle of this change — as a stable bridge between the tradition of the Czech transport market and the innovations that will keep it competitive.
Electric freight transport – the new standard of European logistics
Electric freight transport is becoming a topic that can no longer be avoided.
The first fleets of electric trucks are heading to the Czech Republic in 2025, and according to estimates by the Ministry of Transport, they could account for up to 5–10% of all new truck registrations within five years.
At the same time, the European Union is pushing for stricter emission limits and wants to gradually limit the registration of vehicles with combustion engines by 2035.
While corridors with charging stations for heavy transport are being created in Western Europe, the first stations for trucks are only just being built in the Czech Republic — for example, on the main transit routes D1 and D5.
By 2027, more than 100 charging points intended exclusively for freight transport are planned to be launched.
Challenges awaiting carriers
The transition to electric trucks is not easy. It requires investment, planning and new approaches to logistics.
The biggest obstacles today include:
- the high purchase price of tractors (up to 80% higher than for diesel variants),
- an insufficient network of charging stations,
- complex route planning and charging,
- the need to adapt dispatching and shipping systems.
On the other hand, there are long-term savings in operating costs, lower service requirements and, above all, an increased reputation with customers, who are increasingly monitoring the carbon footprint of their suppliers.
How can a Czech carrier prepare
RAALTRANS, as a transport databank that connects carriers, forwarders and manufacturing companies, sees a great opportunity in electric freight transport.
Thanks to the effective matching of transport and vehicles, it helps to reduce empty kilometers – which is the first step towards more environmentally friendly transport.
With the development of electric tractors, this ability will be key: every unused kilometer means not only a loss, but also unnecessary energy consumption.
In the future, RAALTRANS can also play a crucial role in the field of digital integration:
- connecting the databank with GPS and planning of charging stops,
- sharing information about fleet capacities and needs,
- building a community of carriers who want to be part of a “green” transport solution.
The green future starts today
Electric freight transport is not a distant vision. It is a reality that the market must prepare for — and those who adapt in time will gain a head start.
RAALTRANS, as a stable and innovative partner of the Czech and Slovak transport market, believes that technologies make sense when they bring efficiency, safety and security.
The future of logistics will not only be about speed, but also about responsibility.
And this is precisely the strength of the RAALTRANS brand — connecting, protecting and leading carriers to a more efficient and sustainable future.
